Sell Multiple Oxygen Design Sets from One Install with Asura

If you sell Oxygen design sets, the usual approach is one WordPress install per design set. That means rebuilding the same classes, colors, spacing and typography every time, then updating each install separately. With Asura you can run several sellable design sets from one install. You tag pages to decide which set they belong to, and every set uses the same global styles.

In this short video we use one of Oxygen's pre-made design sets (a conference site) so we don't have to build one from scratch.

Oxygen has its own setting under Oxygen → Settings → Library that makes the whole WordPress install a design set. That works if you sell one design set per site. Asura works differently, so don't enable that option when you use Asura. You can then put several design sets in one installation, for example:

  • Design Set 1 - Utility: the home page and general pages
  • Design Set 1 - Blog: the blog page
  • Design Set 1 - Shop: pages such as Schedule

With Asura active, the page editor sidebar gets a Designset Bundle panel. The Pages list also gets a Designsets column, so you can see which set each page belongs to.

  1. Open a page in the editor, for example the Front Page.
  2. In the Oxygen - Design Set Options box, check Include this page in the default setup, Include the sections in this page in the library and Include this entire page in the library.
  3. Choose a Page Category.
  4. In the sidebar under Designset Bundle → Add New Designset, type the design set name, such as Design Set 1 - Utility, and press Enter. You can separate multiple names with commas or the Enter key.
  5. Click Update.
  6. Do the same for the other pages, for example the Blog page with the blog set and the Schedule page with the shop set.

One page can have more than one tag. In the video, the Schedule page is tagged both Design Set 1 - Utility and Design Set 1 - Shop.

Why shared styles save you time

Each tag can be sold as its own product, and you can also sell several tags together as a bundle. All the sets in one install share the same classes, spacing, colors and typography. So you don't rebuild the global styles for every product. Maintenance is also easier: when you change a value once, the change shows up in every design set you sell from that install.
