How to Install and Activate Hoster in WordPress

Hosting your own plugins on WordPress.org means waiting in a review queue, and it isn't built for plugins you ship privately to clients. Hoster is a self-hosted plugin update solution, and this short video shows how to install and activate it. You install it like any other WordPress plugin, and setup takes a few clicks.

Install the Hoster plugin

You don't need FTP, a server setup or a build step. Hoster installs from a normal plugin zip.

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins and click Add New Plugin.
  2. Click Upload Plugin.
  3. Drag the Hoster zip file onto the upload area, or click to find it on your computer.
  4. Click Install Now, then Activate.

After activation you see the Plugin activated. notice. Hoster appears in the plugin list with the description "Self hosting plugins solution", and a new Downloads item appears in the admin menu.

Add your license

You need an active license before you can start using Hoster.

  1. Open Downloads in the admin menu.
  2. Go to the license screen.
  3. Enter your license key and save it.

That's the whole setup. Once your license is active, you can start self-hosting updates for your plugins from your own WordPress site.
