Per-Page Style Variations in WordPress Block Themes (FanCoolo)
WordPress block themes ship with style variations, but a variation always applies to the whole site. In this short video we show a way to use a different WordPress style variation per page: you pick it in the page editor, and only that page gets the new look. It's a prototype, and we'd like your feedback before we add it to FanCoolo WP.
The problem: style variations are site-wide
In the Site Editor, Design → Styles → Browse styles lists every variation your theme ships with ("Choose a variation to change the look of the site"). Whatever you pick there changes the whole site. WordPress has no built-in way to give one page a different variation.
That's a problem when one page needs its own look, for example:
- a custom promotion or campaign landing page
- product pages that each need their own look, like the pages for our DPlugins products
Assigning a style variation to one page
In the demo we use the Twenty Twenty-Five theme on a test page called "Second theme":
- Open the page in the block editor.
- In the Page sidebar, find the Theme Style panel.
- Open the Select style variation dropdown and switch it from Default to another variation.
- Save the page and reload it on the front end.
The whole page changes to the new variation: a dark background, different colors and different fonts. The header, content and footer all use the selected variation.
Only that page changes
When you go back to the other pages, they still use the default style. The variation you picked only applies to the page you set it on, and the site-wide default stays as it is.
Should this be part of FanCoolo WP?
